Youth Cycle Builders (YCB) taps into your mechanical potential by channelling your passion for bicycles. Over a series of 24 workshops YCB will give you well-rounded training for future employment, covering everything from basic to advanced bicycle mechanics, frame painting and riding skills.
Each session YCB participants will dismantle and re-build a different bicycle component system. In the process you will build a custom bicycle to keep for yourself and one (or more) to sell – and you get to keep the money! And that’s not all: after completing the Youth Cycle Builders course you will be eligible for a summer job at the WRENCH!

What is a coaster brake? It’s that rear wheel brake that’s built into the hub, needing only to pedal backward half a crank turn to engage. Many older cruisers have them and most kids’ bikes have them, and we’re about to dive in on a pile of kids bikes at the Cycle of Giving next month.
Come on down to the WRENCH this Saturday and we’ll all learn together how to adjust, disassemble, clean, and re-assemble coaster brakes.
The workshop runs from 12:30 pm until 2:00, followed by Volunteer Shop.
Ciclovia, a bicycle focused public festival within a festival, is happening this Sunday, September 11th from 11-6 PM.
We’ll be there with our tools, assisting people fix their bikes, talking about Community Bike Shops and generally just hanging around in the last of the summer weather. Look for us with our tables and cargo bike near Memorial Avenue.
Saturday July 23, 12:30 – 2:00 PM
Gears are a great help in all sorts of conditions.
Join WRENCH instructor Benita in assessing, recableing, tensioning and further setting up your bikes gears.
No sign up necessary. Bring yourself and a bike you might want to learn with. We’ll have the coffee on.
We’ve decided that it’s best to have a Volunteer Shop this Saturday.
One of our summer staffers, Matthew, will be in Saturday July 16th from 2-4:30. We’d love to have you come down and assist us in getting the shop all tidy, organized and functional. There’s bike to work on, too!
See you there?

No sign up required! Just bring yourself and your bike if you have one to tune up. Space will be limited to 8 bicycles and participation capped at more than that.
It may cost a few dollars if we end up replacing pieces on your bike. At the very least we would love your donations as a thank you for the workshop.
